Quiet market last week due to holidays. Still high salmon prices increase the focus on how the Norwegian Salmon industry may grow in the future. As it is now, there are quotas regulating the volumes. These quotas are partly based on what is regarded as sustainable for the waters. The cages are in open waters, and too high density will impact biological impact (illness, sea lice, etc) on the nature. In order to look for further possibilities, some companies focus on increasing the time the salmon is grown in land tanks. This is already being done. The alternatives may be to have closed systems in the sea. Or off-shore systems. Norway has a large range of engineering companies specializing in off-shore constructions for the petroleum industry. As the oil price is low, and the environmental future of the petroleum industry is not optimal; some of these companies look for possibilities to support the salmon industry.
