Quite markets from South America. People waiting for input on the new Peruvian season might have to be patient for some time. Still 3 weeks to go for the next IFFO conference. Many large players (both buyers and sellers) might continue to have a wait and see attitude for further commitments.
If we zoom out, and look at the Norwegian Salmon production, and its future; we now see very large investments in the industry. After hatching a salmon is grown in closed land tanks (in fresh water) for a period of 7-12 Months. Then grown in sea cages for another 12-18 month. The focus for investments is Larger and more professional smoltification as land-based farms prior to bringing the salmon in the sea. This requires much more investment in infrastructure but protects the salmon for illness for a longer period. On the sea side, there are also large investments taking place. There are various solutions: Off-Shore large farms closed floating farms with full water management, farms with combination with seaweed and mussels, and more. There is not a single answer to the future of Norwegian salmon, but rather a combination of various solutions. However, for us as a producer of the salmon meal and oil, there is a predictability that there will be good growth in future volumes.
